These two stayed, and the conversion kept their stacked floors and open interiors while adding what a hotel and its restaurants need. Because the plan came from an exhibition rather than a hotel brief, the building runs vertically through several levels, and circulation between them is part of how it works.
what else is true: Île Notre-Dame is largely made ground, formed for the fair itself, and it also holds a racing circuit, a rowing basin and parkland. The island position means arriving by bridge or metro. Live programming runs in the complex through the year alongside the restaurants.
